Hauteville-Lompnes: sport, health and fresh air!
Hauteville is renowned for its treatment centres, which guarantee an excellent quality of care and have become masters in the art of physiotherapy and physical rehabilitation. Some of France’s greatest athletes and champions come here to recover from injuries, where the plateau’s pleasant climate is conducive to rest and recuperation.
Perfectly suited to cater for both big and small sports teams, Hauteville remains Olympique Lyonnais football club’s preferred training ground, while other sports federations often come here for the resort’s specially adapted facilities. Welcome to the European Centre for Training Courses and Sports Camps!
The “Lumberjack Walk” (Promenade du Bûcheron) that takes place in May isn’t exactly a walk in the park… The demanding Ain “Eco-trail” race covers 70km and climbs over 3,000m! Departure is at dawn for the first challenge which will take you right to the summit of Grand Colombier (1,531m/5,023ft) in Valromey.
Plateau du Retord is as Nordic and idyllic as it gets!
In spring, immense daffodil-covered valleys decorate the horizon as far as the eye can see. Above Retord Farm, the imposing silhouette of Mont Blanc stands proud, almost like a mirage. The atmosphere here is serene and nothing can disturb the calm of the pastures…
Home to some of the most beautiful trails (GR9, Grandes Traversées du Jura), both in summer and in winter, the plateau is the favourite backdrop of both hikers and cross-country skiers. Retord Chapel, the symbol of the plateau, has been a popular meeting place among trekkers for generations.
Plans d’Hotonnes is a unique family resort, a favourite among many Lyonnais, whose attachment to it is likely linked to their first sledge run or their first time on skis. This very resort houses an international biathlon stadium – the emblematic sport of the Montagnes du Jura. Several great champions grew up in villages around here before going on to excel in major international competitions.
