A leading trombonist on the French music scene for the past 20 years, and a longtime collaborator with Thomas de Pourquery, Le Sacre du Tympan, Nougaro, Manu Dibango, Tony Allen, and so many others, Daniel Zimmermann embarks on his third album with Label Bleu, offering a highly personal reinterpretation of Serge Gainsbourg’s work, alongside the musicians from his multi-award-winning album “Montagnes Russes.” Lively, playful, and moving, the album shifts between offbeat arrangements and the creation of entirely new pieces, crafted from elements drawn from the original work of the legendary singer-songwriter. Focusing on the pre-Gainsbarre era of Gainsbourg—his most creative period in terms of melodies—these four strong-willed musicians combine the raw energy of a rock band with the fiery creative freedom of jazz.
