Les Pertes de la Valserine A natural phenomenon and a wild river

Carved rocks, giant potholes, unfathomable chasms… The Valserine disappears and reappears, carving out a fascinating mineral labyrinth. A path winds along the edge of the void, revealing a raw, untamed landscape. Curious to see how far the water can go?

France's wild river

The Valserine flows at the foot of the Haute Chaîne du Jura, most of it in gorges, through a succession of waterfalls and giant pools. It is the first river to be awarded the “Rivières sauvages de France” label, notably for the quality of its water and its unspoilt natural environment. Inevitably sought-after for fishing, the Valserine is teeming with Fario trout.

La Balade

The highlight of the show, the Pertes de la Valserine, illustrates a natural phenomenon typical of the karstic relief of the Jura massif. The action of water has carved a deep labyrinth in the limestone rock into which the river disappears. This has given rise to a ford that allows you to cross between the two banks. A well-maintained footpath leads from the center of Valserhône. For shorter, more direct access, another path starts from the parking lot beside the D1084 departmental road.
