The Domaine du Gouverneur is renowned as one of the largest golf courses in France, both in terms of size and quality. In the heart of the Dombes region with its thousand ponds, the Château du Breuil estate offers a veritable showcase for golf enthusiasts.

From your room in the morning, you can enjoy the view of the golf course before setting off to warm up on the water driving range or, if you’re feeling brave, on the 9-hole La Soche course.

After a tasty lunch at the Table du Gouverneur, the beauty and subtleties of the Breuil course will occupy your afternoon. You can debrief the adventures of this perfect day over an aperitif, in the conviviality and comfort of the club house or under the last rays of sunshine on the terrace.

It’s always a pleasure to play here. This golf course is one of the best in the area, superb and always well maintained. We enjoyed the magnificent views over the Dombes ponds. The Breuil course offers exciting challenges on every hole.

Golf variations

With its three courses, Domaine du Gouverneur offers an XXL golfing experience.

Le Breuil, with 18 holes set in sublime natural surroundings, is a real challenge for golfers, offering an unusual visual experience. Large, rather flat greens, ponds and large roughs in season will put seasoned golfers to the test, particularly on hole 15. A benchmark course!
Montaplan is a little shorter, with a wooded section: its smaller, undulating greens demand a high level of technical skill.
La Soche (9 holes) is the perfect course for beginners or for pressure-free training.

And let’s not forget the vast practice area, with its water-based driving range and large grass-based platforms, greens and practice bunker for practicing all types of shots. It’s the perfect place to try out the Trackman Range technology, to evaluate yourself and make progress while having fun.

La Table du Gouverneur has been awarded the “Saveurs de l’Ain” label and will delight gourmets with its refined flavours, where local gastronomy blends with Asian spices under the baton of chef Alexandre Porceillon, while pastry chef Loïc Armand reinterprets pastry classics with simplicity and authenticity.

Preserving the natural heritage of the Dombes governors

Golf du Gouverneur takes its name from the former occupants of the Château du Breuil, built in the Middle Ages as a fiefdom for the governors of the Dombes region. It was on their land, made up of ponds and forests, woods and valleys, that the region’s largest and undoubtedly most beautiful golf course was built.

In this unspoilt natural setting, the diversity of flora and fauna is exceptional. Aware of the fragility of this heritage, since 2020 the estate team has been committed to the “Golf for Biodiversity” initiative launched by the French Golf Federation and the French National Museum of Natural History. Large wading birds and passerines, carp, pike-perch, pike and amphibians, trees and plants, water and soil quality, are all the focus of our attention.

The Golf du Gouverneur has chosen to play an active role in preserving nature, and is committed to making eco-responsible choices that respect the environment. This involves raising awareness among golfers, so that they adhere to and contribute to the project. The approach was crowned with a “Silver” label in 2024, but is continuing towards Gold with the aim of always doing better.
