Hiking in the Ain within easy reach by train

Take the train, leave the car in the garage. Direct excursions from the station, zero stress, zero footprint (or almost). The adventure begins on the rails!

The adventure begins on the rails

Take the train, leave the city behind. The window becomes a window onto the world, the landscape unfolds, stress evaporates. Once you’ve arrived, the path almost opens up from the station. No cars, no noise: just the sound of your footsteps on the earth and the breath of the wind in the trees. Fewer footprints, more sensations. The journey is already the destination.

Ideas for rejuvenating weekends

Weekend in Nantua Between two cliffs, two panoramas

Take the train, then the TER bus to Nantua, where the lake awaits you, sandwiched between two majestic cliffs. On the first day, set off for the Roche d’Au-Delà: a demanding climb, but rewarded by a plunging view of the lake and surrounding mountains. The next day, climb to Les Fècles on the other side of the lake: the panorama changes perspective as the lake stretches out below, shimmering between rock and forest. A total escape in the heart of nature.

Weekend on the Plateau d'Hauteville Two days to breathe

Hop on the TER, then take the regional bus (line A40) to the Plateau d’Hauteville. Once there, put on your hiking boots. On the first day, set off on the Les Lésines to Planachat hike: a rejuvenating loop that leads from the Lésines lake to the ridges through fir forests, with an unobstructed view of the Bugey. The next day, we head for the RAF Monument and the Borne des 3 Cantons: an itinerary that combines memory and nature, through the wooded paths of the plateau. Two days of walking, two atmospheres, a break in the fresh air.

Itineraries from station to station Two micro-adventures in the heart of Ain

Want to get away from it all without a car? Take the train and embark on an itinerant micro-adventure. From the station, set off to cross the Bugey via the Grand Colombier: a mythical ascent followed by grandiose panoramas of Mont Blanc and the Rhône valley. Or opt for the vineyards, from Revermont to Bugey: an immersion between hillsides and wine villages, punctuated by the discovery of local flavors. Two itineraries, two atmospheres…
