Let us guide you, summer awaits.

When the sun is beating down, the trails of the Ain region offer the perfect escape. In the shade of the forest, by the water or on the ridges swept by a high-altitude breeze, every hike becomes a refreshing interlude. Whether you’re looking for a breathtaking view at sunset or an invigorating swim after a hard day’s work, the Ain has just what you’re looking for.

Borne au Lion & Crêt de Chalam 2.3 km - 2h

From La Borne au Lion, in the commune of La Pesse (39), a shaded path of just over 2 km leads to the summit of Crêt de Chalam. The short but intense ascent is rewarded by a breathtaking 360° view of the Jura, the Alps and Mont Blanc.

Lake Genin 14.9 km - 5h30

From Oyonnax, this demanding route winds through a dense forest of spruce, fir and beech. The shade of the trees accompanies the effort, but the real gift awaits you at the finish: Lac Genin, peaceful and set in its own green setting. A perfect mirror of water for a well-deserved break, between coolness and silence.

Tour de l'Oignin 8.1 km - 2h20

Lac de l’Oignin owes its existence to a phantom dam, swept away as soon as it was created. Fortunately, a more solid project helped shape this natural gem. The trail winds around it, offering soothing views of the calm waters and wooded relief that surround it. An easy and rejuvenating loop, between memory and tranquility.

La Reculée and Grotte de Corveissiat 2.4 km - 1h30

The remote areas of the Jura are special places, and Corveissiat is no exception. The path winds its way through untouched nature, along a moss-lined stream to the River Ain. Then, the monumental porch of the grotto emerges, imposing and silent. A face-to-face encounter with the rock, between mystery and fascination.

Les Pertes de la Valserine 2.4 km - 2h

It’s well worth the effort! The river rushes through the limestone rock, sculpting basins and narrow gorges with a soothing crash. A short but captivating walk, where the power of water shapes the landscape before your very eyes. Please note: the trail from Valserhône may be closed at certain times of the year. However, Les Pertes de la Valserine are still often accessible via the parking lot off the D1084. Be sure to check out ain-outdoor.com before you go!

From the blue lake to the ruins of St-Germain 5.7 km - 2h

From Vareilles, the trail follows the Gardon river, revealing the history of the district through a heritage trail. The Lac Bleu, with its changing reflections, marks a refreshing pause before continuing on to the remains of the castle and the ancient medieval village of Saint-Germain. An accessible loop full of discoveries, perfect for a family outing.

Did you know? The Ain has two faces

To the west, the plains of the Bresse and Dombes regions stretch out under an open sky, while to the east, the mountains of the Jura massif form a rugged landscape. This geographical diversity offers an incredible variety of landscapes and hikes!
