Short walks of less than 2 hours

Tailored for families with discoverers in short pants or those in a hurry, discover our selection of nature walks lasting less than 2 hours, 100% pleasure. Forests, lakes, riverbanks… Gentle trails, not too steep, perfect for great discoveries. Just enough time to breathe and marvel.

What if we were already thinking about the break?

Sometimes, setting off on a walk is already knowing that you’re going to stop. For children, it’s a snack break in front of a panorama, a stop to dip their feet in the river or throw pebbles in the water. For adults, it’s the pleasure of slowing down, sitting back against a tree and enjoying the moment. There’s no need to race: here, the walks are short and designed with that in mind.

La Croix de Famban, a panorama for every season 4.3 km - 1h30

From the Sur-Lyand cross-country ski center, the trail crosses the Sur-Lyand plateau and its alpine meadows. In spring, daffodils and narcissi grace the meadows. In summer, heifers move up to the summer pastures, punctuating the landscape with their peaceful presence. In autumn, the beech forests take on golden hues, offering a striking contrast with the surrounding ridges. And all year round, the panoramic views of the Alps and Mont Blanc are a reward for every step.

The Valserine, a wild river 4.8 km - 1h30

The Valserine, France’s first classified wild river, meanders peacefully through the Haute Chaîne du Jura Nature Reserve. In Lélex, several stone bridges allow you to cross the river and admire its clear waters.

3 waterfalls circuit 4.3 km - 1h30

This walk takes you through the Brénod forest, with streams winding through the trees and waterfalls punctuating the path. The ascent to the summit of Areta rewards walkers with a fine view of the village and surrounding area, thanks to an orientation table.

Want to extend your adventure?

After a stroll, why not continue exploring? From fun activities to must-see sites, the Ain region is full of ideas for family fun. And for an extra dose of freedom, saddle up: bike rides offer the perfect blend of nature and shared pleasure.

The Earring Trail 4.6 km - 2h

The Sentier de la Boucle d’Oreille is an open-air nature lesson. Here, trees bear names we’d forgotten, moss spreads between the roots, and local essences release their fragrances under the sun. You learn without even thinking about it. A walk that awakens the senses… and the spirit.

La Sarsouille: a walk between water and forest 3.7 km - 1h30

Departing from downtown Oyonnax, the trail follows the Sarsouille River into the Brétouze forest. The murmur of water accompanies the walk, between fords and a suspended footbridge that adds a touch of adventure. The path is sometimes slippery after rain, so it’s best to be well-shod! An accessible walk for all the family to discover the discreet but essential history that links the river to the people of the region.

Did you know? The Ain is home to some unique theme parks!

Walk in the footsteps of the dinosaurs at Dinoplagne, immerse yourself in prehistory at the Grottes du Cerdon, or marvel at the ballet of birds at the Parc des Oiseaux. From nature to history to adventure, there’s always a new experience for the whole family.
