The Tissot winery is located in the heart of a charming medieval village. Nestled between steep, sunny hillsides and criss-crossed by the Buizin stream, the village's winding lanes and stonework are a delight for curious strollers.
The Ain hillsides offer a magnificent wine-growing terroir clinging to the last foothills of the Jura massif, before it is stopped by the Rhône.
The vineyards of Maison Tissot offer a beautiful mosaic of terroirs: Jacquère is planted on limestone scree, and despite being 100 years old, it is in resplendent health. Altesse is planted on a superb south-facing slope of blue marl. Gamay draws its fruity, spicy character from the stony, clay-limestone soil in which it is planted. Mondeuse flourishes on the sunny, sloping Mataret hillside.

The estate is family-run (5th generation to work the vines) and on a human scale. The winemakers work 5 ha and produce 10 different cuvées. After many years of working with respect for nature and without herbicides, the family converted to organic farming in 2016, with AB certification obtained from the 2019 vintage onwards for the entire estate. There's a lot of manual work on the steep slopes, including disbudding, lifting, picking and, of course, harvesting.

The Tissot family takes great care to produce quality grapes, so that the winemaking process takes place in the best possible conditions, and the wine expresses all the complexity and power of the Bugey terroirs.

The entire production is sold in bottles and, as far as possible, in short circuits: on the estate, in producers' stores, at wine fairs, with wine merchants and restaurateurs, as well as for export (to the USA, Belgium, the Netherlands and Japan). The Tissot family has chosen not to sell these wines in supermarkets.

The cuvées are regularly selected in the Guide Hachette des vins (1 star for Mondeuse 2021, "Par les Soirs bleus d'été" in the 2024 edition) or take part in competitions: Altesse 2022 was awarded a gold medal at the Concours international "Amphore" des vins Bio 2023, Roussette du Bugey Mataret 2020 received the gold medal at the "Elle à table" 2023 competition. They have also been honored by journalists (Bugey Brut in the March 2022 issue of Elle à Table).

The Tissot family would be delighted to welcome you (by appointment) to discover their cuvées!
