Beware of gravel between Col de la Rochette and Ruffieu. Very dangerous descent, not recommended (August 2025).
You climb the Col de la Rochette (1,113 m), 2nd category from Ruffieu, for 6 km, with the Grand Colombier at your back. You soon enter a coniferous forest and follow a long straight line before passing the only hairpin that takes you to the summit under the fir trees. Ideal for hot days, the climb to the Col de la Rochette is very pleasant in its undergrowth section. It remains fairly steep, with a maximum gradient of 7.4%.
The Tour de France passed over the Col de la Rochette once in 2016 on stage 15, Bourg-en-Bresse / Culoz.
