Located at the foot of Grand Colombier, the Fruitière du Valromey brings together 14 farms and produces 300 tonnes of Comté cheese, equivalent to 3 million litres of milk.
The other 2 million litres of milk are used to make other types of cheese (raw milk raclette, mountain tomme, etc.), white cheeses, butter and cream. Part of the production is certified organic.
From the birth of the project to create a Comté cheese dairy launched in 2017 by the Valromey Dairy Farmers' Union, through the creation of the Valromey cheese dairy cooperative in 2018, to the laying of the foundation stone, the farmers have been committed to this ambitious project, which is a real economic tool for an entire high-quality livestock sector and also enables the development of short supply chains.
The refiner chosen by the farmers' cooperative is the Seignemartin company in Nantua (purchase of white Comté cheese wheels).
Guided tours are organised on fixed dates by the Bugey Sud Grand Colombier Tourist Office.
The products of the Fruitière du Valromey, sold directly in the cheese shop, are also available in various shops:
