Know-how sector

In recent years, know-how tourism has attracted renewed interest from the public and visitors alike. This form of tourism allows visitors to discover industrial and craft heritage in an immersive way. In 2020, the French government wanted to breathe new life into this industry with an ambitious goal: to double the number of businesses open to the public in five years. By 2022, there will be 3,500 of them for 20 million visitors (+25% since 2019).
The Ain, France’s fifth most industrialized département, located at the heart of the country’s leading industrial region, boasts remarkable economic wealth and diversity. Its companies, often leaders in their fields, perfectly illustrate the local dynamism and offer an exceptional opportunity for tourism development.

Ain, a good dose of know-how

A shared ambition

Faced with the growing popularity of know-how tourism and the economic and cultural potential of Ain companies, Aintourisme aims to make this theme a driving force in the region’s appeal. The aim is clear: to transform local know-how into a reason to visit and stay, and to develop a new tourism dynamic.

Aintourisme’s two strategic priorities for the industry:

  • Raise the profile of the Ain as a destination based on excellent know-how
  • Generate real economic spin-offs from know-how tourism.

The four directions taken

  • Structuring an accessible and diversified range of visits throughout the region, based on 3 areas of experimentation (industry, agri-food and crafts) and a membership charter, to create original, immersive experiences all year round, enhanced by events, themed stays and products for groups.
  • Building and leading a network of players to unite businesses and partners around a collective dynamic, create opportunities for meetings and exchanges (eductours, workshops, etc.) to share best practices, forge strategic partnerships to strengthen the industry, train them in the art of welcoming different publics, whether tourists, school groups or local residents.
  • Targeted promotional actions to raise the profile of the Ain as a know-how destination with different customer groups (tourists, coach groups, school groups and local residents). These actions should also promote the companies, entrepreneurs and local products associated with these skills.
  • Marketing our offer, in particular through our booking service for sales of stays targeting leisure or business groups, and / or support for a direct link between companies and visitors / consumers.
