Geneva Orienteering Cup in the Challex Forest
A fun orienteering event open to everyone, whether from CERN or elsewhere, athletes or families, runners or walkers, children or adults, etc.
Registration can be done either on the CERN Orienteering Club website until Thursday 1 May (https://club-orientation-cern-geneve.ch/calendrier), or on the day (simply turn up at the start of the event between 12.30 pm and 2.30 pm). A detailed map is provided and compasses are available to borrow.
The Coupe Genevoise comprises a dozen races in various forests in the Geneva region, organised in collaboration with other orienteering clubs in Switzerland or neighbouring France. At each race, 5 or 6 different courses are offered:
- 3 easy courses (short, medium and long), with control points located exclusively on paths and tracks or nearby. Courses designed for beginners who are just starting to learn how to read a map.
- 3 technical courses (short, medium and long). What they have in common is that the routes between control points rarely use paths or tracks. Confidence in reading the map and using a compass is necessary to complete such courses successfully.
