Life on a Bresse farm

Inside the farmhouse, you can imagine what life was like for the farmers of yesteryear. The reconstruction is complete: from the vast courtyard surrounded by outbuildings and arcaded galleries, the entrance to the building transports you back in time. The interior rooms bear the traces of centuries of hard work.

The Saracen fireplace is impressive, with its arched bench, the ancestors’ bench, where guests used to sit. You’re in the heart of the house, a place for living and entertaining, where family gatherings and important events were held…

The weight of centuries and past lives is perceptible in this perfect reconstruction.

Through its thematic collections, Bresse reveals its soul, its arts (enamels and earthenware), its traditions (clothing and headdresses) and its rituals. You’ll discover the art of the table and all the secrets of the culinary arts, as practiced in Bresse… A very modern museum, full of surprises, that takes you on a journey through time in Bresse country.

The hedged parkFor fresh air

The park around the farm provides a pleasant playground for picnics on sunny days. Children will have a field day… As you wander around, you’ll come across an old-fashioned vegetable garden, a pond, giant games, a corn maze and a free-range AOC poultry farm.

GOOD TO KNOW

A real farm

The Planons farm has existed since the 15th century, and was in operation until 1992. It was altered as the estate evolved. As with all Bresse farms, only the first floor is occupied.

The central room, the “maison chauffure”, is the house’s hearth around the vast fireplace. This is where people would gather in the evenings to share the warmth of the fireside, pass on news and tell stories.
