Length of visit?

15 to 30 minutes, depending on your desire to contemplate a hypnotic spectacle! We extended our outing with the “Water Trail” hike.

From driving force to photographic icon

Yesterday a resource, today a spectacle… For a long time, the Glandieu waterfall was not a place for contemplation, but a source of energy. Its flow fed a marble sawmill, where the force of the water facilitated stone working. Even today, a hydroelectric plant harnesses this power, confirming that the waterfall is more than just a postcard landscape.

GOOD TO KNOW

When is the best time to discover it?

You’ll love it when it rains! It’s when the stream becomes full of water that the waterfall reveals all its power, offering a breathtaking spectacle, especially in spring and autumn.

In winter, during periods of intense cold, the waterfall freezes into a monument of ice, transforming the site into a fairy-tale tableau. However, these conditions vary according to each winter’s temperatures.

A SHOW FOR EVERYONE Easy access

Glandieu is a waterfall for everyone. Just a few steps from the parking lot, it is effortlessly revealed and immediately impressive. For those who wish to extend the experience, the “Sentier de l’eau” (Water Trail) offers a 7 km loop, which can be completed in around 2h30. This interpretive trail explores the influence of water on landscapes and human life, offering a deep immersion in local history.

Please note

A few rules to follow

To preserve this natural jewel, several measures have been put in place:

  • No swimming: the water is tempting, but fragile. Its flow can be unpredictable, and the aquatic fauna must be preserved.
  • Dogs not allowed: the site is classified as a sensitive natural area, to avoid any disturbance of local biodiversity.
