The CineGlobe Festival returns to CERN
The 15th edition of the CineGlobe Festival will be held from June 5 to 7, 2026 at CERN, offering a unique encounter between cinema, science and immersive experiences around this year's theme: Transitions.
Throughout the weekend, CineGlobe invites audiences of all ages to discover a rich, interdisciplinary program of film screenings, live performances, workshops and virtual reality installations.
The festival opens on Friday evening with an open-air screening of the film ARCO - the story of a boy from a peaceful far-future who accidentally finds himself in the perilous world of 2075, and teams up with a young girl and her pet robot to get him home.
On Saturday, the official ceremony will recognize the winning films in the categories of Best Documentary, Best Feature Film, Best Youth Film, Best Immersive Project, as well as the Youth Jury Prize.
This edition marks the participation of the very first youth jury, made up of students from Geneva's Haute École d'Art et de Design. The ceremony will be followed by a cocktail reception, during which the filmmakers and jury members will be available for discussion.
Later in the evening, the public can discover Threshold, an immersive live audiovisual performance by Vallon Sauvage. Combining light, laser, sound and space, this sensory creation offers an experience that transforms perception.
Throughout the weekend, CineGlobe's flagship program - the international short film competition - will showcase works of fiction, documentaries and children's films inspired by science and technology. A selection of scientific documentaries will enrich the program, exploring themes such as astronomy, biology and chemistry.
Hands-on workshops will also make a comeback, inviting the public to try their hand at image-making techniques - from building film cameras to creating soundtracks directly on film, to using a century-old Moviola. These activities are open to everyone, with no prior experience required.
The festival also features an immersive space dedicated to virtual reality, with eight carefully selected experiences that push the boundaries of narrative and perception.
The festival closes on Sunday with a screening of A Life Illuminated (2025, directed by Tasha Van Zandt), followed by a discussion entitled "Transitioning to an Ocean-Friendly Future". The documentary traces the work of biologist Dr. Edie Widder and her groundbreaking research into bioluminescence, highlighting both the beauty and fragility of deep-sea ecosystems.
CineGlobe 2026 promises a unique encounter between science and cinema, offering audiences new ways of seeing, understanding and imagining the world in transition.
